What I heard was that in their lifetime a person could expect to eat a peck of dirt. Since no one (esp. a kid) knows what a peck is, we’re fine with that.
Whenever I said I didn’t like something, my grandmother would tell me you’ll eat s**t before you die, not literally, of course. On the other hand, I’m probably one of the few people that don’t like baked beans, so that’s close, very close.
the actual definitive actions in the reality of a situation – always seem to be slightly more telling of a person – than theoretical words being spoken in a knee-jerk reaction :)
