The black smudge under Snoopy’s paws in the first panel is on the black and white version too. It looks like a printing error.

Well, Linus, Snoopy has a point. It WAS rude of you to crawl over and sit in front of him like that when you could see he was watching television!
Just a little baby and already staring at a screen. But Linus sure was a very cute baby.
Don’t know what that splotch might be, but it appears in the Fantagraphics Complete Peanuts so my guess is that it was intentional (it would have been noticed and he was rather meticulous).
