Had to look it up to be certain I remembered correctly from Buzzr. Farwell, Joe Garagiola. The 23rd of March was unkind to you.

All that artwork and a great sound system, and Snoopy doesn’t have his own phone! Surely he could pay for it out of wherever he got the money for the Wyeth!

The “NASA” panel is in one of the cartoon quizzes on GoComics, asking if Snoopy is a mascot for astronaut safety.He is!

‘Buy a car, get a check.’ (If anyone remembers those commercials Joe did for Chrysler back in the ’70s).

Kermit Zarley? I thought his last name was The Frog?

This is the problem with publishing old Peanuts comics. Some of the jokes are so old because hardly anyone gets the references anymore. I did some digging and Snoopy is referring to athletes of yesteryear, either retired or dead:

I had to wonder about the Kermit Zarley reference. Garagiola was the preeminent baseball announcer and Bobby Hull was coming off his best season to date. But Zarley wasn’t a very memorable golfer. Could be that his name was fun. Zarley was quite religious and so was Schultz (at the time).

Yeah, had to look up Kermit Zarley too. this is part of what makes the old re-runs great, remembering & learning about the past.

It’s kind of cute seeing Snoopy use a Telebone. Yes, you read that correctly. A Telebone.

Joe was also the host of TO TELL THE TRUTH for a few years. He even got a smooch from contestant Morganna, Baseball’s Kissing Bandit, years after his playing days.
