First bike was my older brother’s. I was about 5yrs old. The bike was so big that I couldn’t sit on the seat and still have my feet on the pedals. I had to either stand on the pedals or sit on the crossbar. To get off, I had to pull up next to a high curb and tip over till my foot could reach the ground; no helmets and half the time no shoes.
When teaching my younger brother how to ride, he started pedalling faster than I could run, I let go, he goes another 20 feet, turns around and sees I am not holding onto the bike, and then falls down. I hate to say it, but that was the funniest thing I saw that entire year. He gets mad, gets on the bike and rides like the wind. I come home 20 minutes later, still laughing my fool head off.

Mother needs to learn and accept that part of doing anything new involves getting hurt, either physically or emotionally.
