    When I was in (far too many years ago) a typical infantry soldier might be carrying a BAR or a 80mm mortar, or even a fifty calibre machine gun. The fifth squad in every platoon was a ‘special weapons’ squad. So, 20% of the infantry carries machines with extra-ordinary killing power. The M-14 of yesterday and and the M-16 of today are full auto weapons, so 100% of the infantry carries a machine gun. Hand grenades are de rigueur for all infantry members. Good thinking SupCo.
