Spoiler alert: As I recall the Russian subplot ties in with the return of Cutter John. We should be seeing the end of Opus’ amnesia in about six weeks, and Cutter’s return at some point after that

Actually in the 1940s, Jeanne Kirkpatrick was affiliated with the “Young People’s Socialist’s League” which was basically a college branch of the Socialist Party of America. By the 1960’s she was a Democrat and campaigned for Humphrey but then met Hugh Jackson and started becoming a neocon and voila, next thing you knew she was in the Reagan cabinet and switched to the Republican Party. I am not sure if there are any modern analogies to her political conversion: maybe Kyrsten Sinema has as she has migrated from the Greens to the conservative wing of the Democrats?

Translation: What was meant, but cleverly concealed, was “Buckley is a Wutzy Pimp.”

One positive belief of Bill Buckley: he was for legalization of weed ahead of many “so called” liberals. back in the late ’809s I saw him on a Nightline TV broadcast in a debate where he sided with Baltimore Mayor Kurt Schmoke on the pro-weed side. I forget who was on the other side (“liberal” Charlie Rangel might have been on the anti-weed side) but the following is what I found:

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/politics/1988/05/15/call-to-debate-legalization-of-drugs-becomes-louder/2581e191-af3c-4a30-9f41-85fc949a265a/

Anyhow, Schmoke and Buckley decidedly won the night when 2 opposing political ideologies took on the mundane establishment and won!

We had no idea that the Kirkpatricks, Buckleys, etc. would be anachronisms less than thirty years later.

From Wikipedia’s entry for Donald Trump: "Donald Trump registered as a Republican in Manhattan in 1987; since that time, he has changed his party affiliation five times. In 1999, Trump changed his party affiliation to the Independence Party of New York. In August 2001, Trump changed his party affiliation to Democratic. In September 2009, Trump changed his party affiliation back to the Republican Party. In December 2011, Trump changed to “no party affiliation” (independent). In April 2012, Trump again returned to the Republican Party."
