For crying outloud the Kindergarden kids have homework these days. It’s not like my days when you didn’t need any bags to carry your homework home with.
^And although a lot of folks won’t want to hear this, most studies have shown that all that homework (not to be confused with larger out-of-class projects), has NO POSITIVE effects on learning whatsoever. It just doesn’t help kids do better. So the question is: why are we doing this?

My kids’ bags weigh upward of 50 pounds - I weighed them.

In some school districts, the school websites have the homework assignments to be handed in on the first day of class.

If you add expected homework time to time spent in school, some school districts would have kids working 12 hour days.
It is no wonder some kids rebel and refuse to do their homework.
Everybody, kids especially, need downtime and time for play.
