This never ends- we all want the accessories, even if we don’t need them: a key to the house if we use the garage entrance, a company car/phone/credit card, even if we don’t need one, all the file access we can manage, meaningless but cool-sounding job titles…
One of the things I like about this strip is that she catches onto truths about life that many of us don’t notice in ourselves, although we criticise it when we see it here. It’s still no less true of all of us, most of the time!
This has reminded me of a long-ago sports day where I was entered in a skipping race. When I was half-way down the course a more athletic student (read “bully”) who needed a skipping rope to be in the next heat ran out on the field and snatched away mine saying “Give it to me — you’re not going to win anyway!”
@masnadies. Excellent comment, except for the keys to the house part.you may not always be entering the house through the garage, therefore would need keys to main house door, front and back, these would not be superfluous.I enjoy the little observations of life also.
Isn’t the point Lynn is making that Lizzie was considered too inept to let play, but they’d be in trouble if they didn’t pretend to let her play? So they pretend there’s a position called out-outfield, move her far enough they don’t expect her to ever be in play, so no glove needed. She insists she does, and they’re smart enough to realize they can’t just take the glove by force because they’ll get in trouble. Now does this story arc end with them getting so frustrated with her that they get in trouble? I have no idea.
