My very first thought was that the guy wasn’t really a jerk and dad wanted the reward for himself. Then I realized I was being an idiot and Dad simply kept the wallet.
Well at least Gil thinks his dad did the honest thing, naïve though he is. Better than if he’d just kept it and let Gil know what a dishonest thieving scumbag he is.
I stumbled over this strip a few months ago and have been reading it ever since because it is very well done and addresses a common situation that is not often considered in the comics. But it is a sad situation, and this has been a particularly sad episode. Still, you’ve got to root for this underdog and admire his spunk and spirit. Good luck, Gil.
