Yeah, but the wild turkey, not the domesticated version.

Ben Franklin wrote a letter to his daughter on why the turkey should be the national bird. he said,

“I am on this account not displeased that the figure is not known as an Eagle, but looks more like a Turkey. For the truth, the Turkey is in comparison a much more respectable bird, and withal a true original native of America… He is besides, though a little vain and silly, a bird of courage, and would not hesitate to attack a grenadier of the British Guards who should presume to invade his farm yard with a red coat on.”

However, he said he thought the eagle LOKKED like a turkey, and even though he praised the bird, he never I’d it should be the national bird.

I’m no grammarian, but shouldn’t that say “If Ben Franklin HAD had his way…”?

I’ve been hearing that Ben Franklin thing about turkeys since I was a little kid in the 60s. Is there anyone left who’s never heard this before???

If the fish/sea sickness in this strip came from this study, then it’s a bit misleading…
