Apparently, only leftists can have ‘spontaneous’ protests. Considering that most of those have a level of planning that makes a Space Shuttle launch look like a wild, impulsive act, I can see where she might think that there was someone behind all that.

Well, it takes planning to create lies and it takes some form of coordination to spread them through the media. I’m not sure it’s organized enough to be a conspiracy – the Shirley Sherrod lies were debunked so fast that, by the time Glenn Beck’s show was on, he was attacking the left for believing the lies his right wing buddies had spent the day spreading. So I don’t know how much planning there is, but if Fox News wants to give me $1 million, I would be willing to study it further.

Lisa, is the point/joke of the ‘toon that Pelosi is a space alien and probing protesters is about the same as aliens probing abductees? Your work is usually much more direct in making your point. This one is closer to a Barstow ‘toon where we say “I wonder what she’s trying to say?”

Lisa…. I Love it!….of course Pelosi is considered by everyone I know to be a certified Space Alien….none of us agree with Pelosi and wish she had not been elected by the House Dems to the #3 Power Position of the US Government!

with the 9/11/01 Jihadist War forced on the USA, losing 3,000 casualties the first day, and the blood, sweat and tears and money it has cost to defend the USA from Global Jihad…..Pelosi did not question the motive or funding for a planned Islamic monument of Victory over America’s infidels….Pelosi questioned the motive and funding for the opponents of the 9/11 mosque!!!!!! (proof positive Pelosi is an Alien….at least to American majority beliefs and opinions!)

The Democrats are very fortunate to have many brilliant minds who share their political philosophy. Why on earth they would choose for their leadership 2 certifiably mediocre hacks is shocking.

This is not the first time “Stretch” Pelosi has exposed herself… just the first time she is being held accountable for her true feelings. She ignores the issue and diverts by probing the “anti’s” source of income.

Well stretch, save your breath, this was funded by monies that were not seized through government taxes!

Now ask, how is the Mosque being funded?

(Me thinks Pelosi has had to much of her hubby’s tuna! Eat some red meat, you’ll feel better.)

8/20/10 article…”Hardhats vow not to work on controversial mosque near Ground Zero” (the American workers will take care of this problem….this news story reported that there is an internet site…the “Hard Hat Pledge”….)

apparently the paper decided overnight to remove the article…even a NYDaily “search” for 8/20/10 S.Goldsmith article by title failed…IT WAS A DRUDGE LINK…

Let’s see, Nancy’s astrologer ran the country. “W” lost money in the oil business, traded away Sammy Sosa-stole the taxpayers money that went into building a baseball stadium, started two wars, busted the economy. McCain was off his meds and picked Sarah Pain and Small as a running mate, and people think the Dems have some folks who are “space aliens”. Well figuring out an anti-gravity machine that can travel across space is a lot brighter than the intellect required to cut brush on a Texas “ranch” that doesn’t have any cows.

dtroutma, you always portray yourself as the enlightened and sophisticated voice of reason in a sea of sweltering right-wing benightedness….and yet, you merely unleashed your invective against four of your least favorite Republican characters of the last thirty years.

If people wanted to rehash cartoons making fun of Nancy’s astrological inclinations, well, she once WAS fair game. However, let’s play catch-up….Pelosi is an utter idiot who just proved to everyone (once again) that she has no grasp of reality. I repeat, reality. People spontaneously voice their opinions as they are made of aware of certain realities, and she publicly calls it a conspiracy.

No invective, just citing some “comparative analysis”. The first requirement for the extreme right isn’t enlightenment, it’s amnesia.

hmm, after some thought, well sorta’, for those who swing right, constantly whining about us “libs” and all the other insults, this might be a good time to reiterate, long ago, in a system far, far away, I could “take out” those who “offended” me via long rifle, and it was acceptable behavior. Today, I’ve “mellowed”, though my spousal unit disagrees sometimes. I TRY to be “civil”, but sometimes, those “old emotions” rise, and if I offend those of the thin skin and weaker minds, well, sorry, I don’t actually apologize- as the docs say about my, and my son’s disabilities resulting from “service”- live with it! We have to.

Btw, Ev Dirkson, and “Tip” O’Neil could teach ALL the ashatabular incompetents of today a lesson or two on smarts, and civility. Tough, courageous, and controversial– both parties need to abandon the whiners and go for guys like this again– we actually need a Molly Ivins in the house, smart, wit, and courage- all lacking today, just like mean old Dirkson or “Tip” on the “feminine side”.

Considering that there is no mosque at Ground Zero and that the more reactionary parts of the media fomented this little fuss over the Cordoba House into the rest of the media, which, leaning to the right and terrified of complex substantial topics, eagerly jumped aboard the bandwagon, one needn’t look far to find the support for these ill-considered & misinformed “protests”.

On another topic, did everyone see that de facto leader of the Teapublicans, Sarah Palin, leapt to Laura Schlessinger’s defense in some semi-literate tweets, claiming that Schlessinger’s right to free speech “ceased to exist”? And who says that the Teapublicans aren’t racist?

You suggest that I listen to an hour of Laura Schlessinger rant rudely & thoughtlessly in order to judge whether the ill-considered, misinformed, & racist remarks that I did hear were, somehow, out of context?

I have heard her show before. It’s really bad. It does not encourage any thinking person to listen to a second show.

Sarah is like listening to a minah bird. Dr. Laura was/is weird, but haven’t been able to get her show for a long time. Listening to the “radio folks” occasionally does give a sense of where the whacko right is getting their propaganda dose of the day.

Tomato juice doesn’t really help a hangover, or a good drunk, that in today’s world is well-justified, but, it IS interesting that in our political world of pure emotion, if a “lefty” DOES kick back, the repugnicans immediately retort with attempted insults– which is why I noted attempting civility is a good idea, but something no “right-wing” media pundit, or political advisors, have even remotely considered in nearly a half century.

For the recommendation of “The Political Brain”- thanks-mm or whichever of you kind folk suggested it, only part-way through it, but very relevant book-a nice condensation of a lot of neurological and sociological facts in one place.

Brian, I want to compliment you on your use of the word “Teapublicans”. Although inaccurate, it’s a much better word than you’ve tagged those folks with in the past. Well timed, considering your subject matter, and consistent with your “Dr. Laura” point :-)

Btw, many people in this thread are confused about LB’s comic because they didn’t hear Nancy Pelosi’s comments about “joining in with those who want to investigate how the opposition to the ‘mosque’ (her words) is being funded”. This is because Fox News has run this clip several times over the past few days, but very few other networks have run it at all.

One more example of how a thinking person must include Fox as a news source if they are to receive and understand a complete picture from all perspectives.

Dr. Laura’s points were not out of context at all. She said exactly what she meant, as usual. In this case, her point was that we are surrounded by the word in question from hundreds of sources, and that it is idiotic that it mean different things depending upon who says it. Even Al Sharpton agreed in principle with this perspective in the past, when he symbolically “buried” the word from use by anyone regardless of color a few years back. This contradicts his stance on the Dr. Laura incident, of course.

While completing understanding and respecting her position, I disagree with it. The use of that word has changed over the years… it is no longer synonymous with blacks in general, but of individuals with specific behaviors and mindsets. Chris Rock does an excellent summary of its current meaning.

Laura has changed over the years. She’s become less preachy, and much more sympathetic to gay/lesbian dynamics and issues. I think that’s why there wasn’t much of a speedbump over this except from the usual suspects. She’ll soon do a Howard Stern and end up on satellite, where she won’t have to worry about organized sponsor boycotts anymore.
