False advertising…neither one of them is dressing….they’re both fully clothed.

I’m not paying 4 or 5 gold coins for salad. For that much gold, I expect cheesecake.

And then, the dressing was invented by a Mexican chef of that name, but the cartoon is still somewhat funny.

The “Ides” was more or less the middle day of a month…the “Nones” was a day just a bit after the beginning, and the Kalends (from which we get “calendar” ) marked the end.

The Romans counted the days from those three points.

March was the first month of the year, and the Ides of March was particularly significant, even before … you know…shh…. we don’t want Caesar to hear….

I mostly educated myself…. the UK school I was sent to was useless. It seems that there are differing opinions as to the Ides. I referred to a book, not a website.

John, my bad… Yes first day, but the day count went backwards, so the days of June would be counted as so many till, or of, the calends… actually of July, but I forgot that part. . The days after that are counted as so many of the nones of July. It’s confusing when you’re used to counting forward. Would be like only saying the time as, say, a quarter till three, and never two forty five.
