    He couldā€™ve made a ā€œdo not disturbā€ sign like you see at hotel roomsā€¦ but then the fellow at the door wouldnā€™t bother to notice it.

    When we get garden spiders at our front door ( building a web, not ringing the doorbell ) we leave them, we get a lot fewer ā€œvisitorsā€ that way.

    And the annoyance level goes up several notches when it is someone trying to sell something.. like a new roof, windows or religion.

    Iā€™ve found out that having my ringer on silent keeps the annoying calls at bay, for I glance at the phone # (on my caller ID) as itā€™s ā€˜ringingā€™ and if I donā€™t recognize the numberā€¦I donā€™t pick up the phone. Fortunately I live in a condo, and havenā€™t had to deal with JWs knocking on my door, but they do leave their literature behind or they send you a letter via snail mail.
