Yeah, and then that old Zenith would get 3 channels at best with those old rabbit ears. And of course if you didn’t call the TV guy you could pull the tubes out and take them down to the local drug store and use the tube tester to try to replace them yourself. It was the original You (and the)Tube!
I not only had doctors come to my house but one even drove me and my three year old daughter to the hospital when she needed emergency care. She was very listless and I hadn’t realized she had got into the bottle of aspirin which I thought was so high she couldn’t reach, dumb me.I was very young then and hadn’t realized there was anything seriously wrong and might not have taken her to emergency until it was too late. So, thank heavens for that particular home visit.
Okay, old person here. I remember milk being delivered, the doctor making house calls, and mail delivered twice a day, charge account at the neighborhood grocery store. Well, not too old, retired anyway!
TV Repairmen were the next to last resort. First you would take the tubes out a few at a time then go to the Rexall and test them with the tube tester. If you couldn’t ID the culprit then the repairman was called. Last resort was take it to the TV repair shop, I used to like to look at all the used sets in the window for sale.
Once our daughter got sick during a particularly nasty “It’s going around” epidemic. Rather than coming to the centre of the epidemic, the doctor came to the house. As he left, our son said, “I thought only Marcus Welby did that.” (Canada, 1970s)
