I am known to my two granddaughters as “Bad Paw-Paw”. That name came to be because I stuck crayons in my nose to entertain the older of the two when she was in a fussy mood while we were out to dinner one night. It worked, as do many of the silly things I do to entertain them, most of which I learned when I was busy being a dad.
Mine was the master of being both “the silly grandpa” and “the grouchy grandpa.” He could make up stories on the move that would have everyone howling in laughter. I’d give anything to have him back, even if he was in grouchy mode.
@natureboyfig I agree, I miss my papa every day! He was so silly, I always read when I eat and when I was a kid he’d move my milk so I had to look up from my Archie book to find it instead of just reaching out and grabbing it. He was so awesome!

The only time I saw Earl in a grouchy mood was when Opal made him take care of the dog piles in the yard.

With Opal barking at him all the time, I’m surprised he’s not grouchy more often.

My grandpa used to hold a pencil on his upper lip to make me laugh and be seen as silly…
Doesn’t take much to entertain a 5 year old..GO Earl.!..

I have a photograph of my father doing this (the spoon trick) with my sons. It is absolutely priceless.
