What, no violins? Old violins were a staple of pawn shops for years. The violinist would need some money and hock his fiddle, or the fiddler died and no one in his family knew how to play or if they did didn’t want the old instrument. And of course with the Frank Nelson character, there’s a guy who was a thorn in his side who “played” (?!) the violin.(Incidentally, Jack Benny actually did own and play a Stradivarius violin. The Benny Stradivarius – its official name – was bequeathed by Jack to the LA Philharmonic on his death and is played by the orchestra’s first violinist.
I didn’t know Frank Nelson had so many lookalike sons living in the same town. Wherever Skeezix goes, he runs into one. Besides “The Jack Benny Show” he was also a frequent guest on “I Love Lucy” and Lucille Ball’s later shows. My favorite line of his was when a husband was trying to surprise his wife with a special gift and the salesman (Nelson) would say, “Oooh, aren’t we sneaky.” Even “The Flintstones” used a character based on him a couple of times.

As for the clerk, I don’t think that was the “please” he was looking for. Oh, well.

By any chance he brought that accordion from a certain “weird” musician?

Memory at 80 is a bit adrift, but I can still hear Nelson’s oily voice from old radio Jack Benny shows.
