Was that a Freudian slip or deliberate?

One must wonder, what costs more money? Traveling by car and using so much gasoline, or the airplane passages?

On every flight I’ve ever taken, there has always been a Calvin aboard. Usually under six, but one of the worst was about 12.

LeadingEdge: How were you able to fly from LaGuardia to Italy? The only international destination from LaGuardia is in Canada.

An here I set in my rural Texas home with the windows open. Nice breeze. Turned the sprinkler in the garden. Cats came in for a rub and a tummy tickle.Coffees on, suns coming up and alls right in my world.

Calvin, I’ve driven 17 hours in a car. To me, eight hours is nothing.

On long trips we gave the kids the map. They plotted the route. We stopped at some interesting places we wouldn’t have otherwise. And it stopped the “are we there yet?” craziness!

In 1955, I flew from Detroit to Berlin in a four-engine prop. We were 15 hours air born over the Atlantic. The seats and legroom were roomy, and we partied in the wide aisle most of the time. Flying today is demeaning and stressful.

When I was a kid my Dad worked construction after WWII. Long road trips were mandatory. In Texas, no air conditioning, and no food courts at filling stations I don’t recall what my brother and I did, but one thing we didn’t do was bug our parents.I own some property in East Texas. The drive in the good ol’ days took 7 hours. Now, I can drive it in 3 hrs. easy. Thank Zot for interstates.

12 hours Detroit to Nagoya in a 747, I spent most of it strolling the aisles.

There was a simple solution for Calvin’s parents. They should have hired Rosalyn to come along and babysit Calvin for them. Imagine those two in the back seat together! Or better yet, leave Calvin home with Rosalyn and the parents enjoy a wonderful, relaxed camping trip!

Mom: “Well, Calvin, let me put it to you this way: right now we are about thirty seconds closer to our destination than we were the last time you asked us that very same question!”Dad: “Yeah, we’ll get there when we get there when we get there!”

You know, this is the Fourth of July; and so I can’t help but wonder:When does Paul Revere come riding by on his horse; so as to give us our 4th of July Presents? (LOL!)

I learned to “play” the harmonica on long road trips as a kid. My parents must have loved me very much.
