You were diagnosed ten years ago, but there is a better than even chance the diabetes was at work in your body for far longer. In any case, I feel for you and along with LeadingEdge pray you have a positive outcome for a long life.
When I was first hospitalized when I was thirteen, I received a book titled Diabetic Care in Pictures and it primarily focused on maintaining a lifestyle with the chronic disease. Over the years, the book was lost, and today there are far better treatments available for the disease; but one thing I remember distinctly from the book was one of the last items printed. It may sound a bit tacky by today’s standards of political correctness, but it said, “The way to live a long and healthy life is to contract a chronic disease and take care of it.”
The message being humans often consider themselves indestructible, and often participate in destructive behavior, often to their early demise…

Not being a particularly good gambler, we often played a card game with our family titled “Go Fish”.
No hand held devices, or fancy electronic game board and controllers required; only a simple deck of 52 cards…

Fish Bashing, breaks up their little bones ahead of time so you don’t choke on them . Maybe. It is a sport, after all.
