Well, it makes you want to swim really, really fast. I recall one day jumping into a river in Yosemite that was coming off the snowpack. Didnât breathe once going across. Then had to turn around and swim back.
Of course they always teach swimming lessons early in the morning when the pool and lifeguards are not busy. . because the water is too cold for the relative air temp. I taught lessons in the AM in the early 70âs (and took lessons in the 60âs) and I sure didnât want to go in the cold water either time. Obviously not an ideal atmosphere for learning anything. Later in â77ish when I earned my Water Safety Instructor certification they at least recognized that cold water and learning donât work well together.

Really? Just three? That really must have been painful. Though I think extreme cold is just a little less horrible than extreme heat.

Rosalyn, do you know what a garotte is? ? Itâs a choking weapon that can be formed very easily with that towel, if you get my meaning. ;/

As a child I joined the Y to learn how to swim but the pool water was absolutely freezing and so I opted out. At least I did learn to float.

She knows how to get Calvin âmotivatedâ. ;) The best way to warm up is to swim around! Oh, heâs just learning though. :P
