In every universe, there’s a first time for everything.

What I find fascinating is the way Hillsdale (am I remembering the name right?) works so hard to create a faux-1950’s (i.e. “family friendly”) atmosphere. There are no automats anymore and they wouldn’t work if there were.

Never tried before by a bipedal mouse and a brown fuzzy whatzit. ;-)

There are still automats in Japan and some European countries. I was more amused by the return of the League of Nations.

This universe has flying cars, but still has newsboys selling papers on street corners…

One thing I’ve learned in my time is that trench coats and fedoras will TOTALLY hide your horrible, mutated form.

“Never tried before” depends on one’s perspective. This sort of thing pops up so much in fiction that TV Tropes has a page dedicated to it. I wonder if either Doc or Holly have noticed that their voices sound like they’re inhaling helium. Even so, if the common response to a newsboy is to tell him to eff-off, then this must be New York.

This skill will come in handy when they have to enter Endtown and the only food they’ve brought is beans.

Noticed the sign “Pep” is it an advert for pep cola or for pep stadium?

Step 1: Google “Automat”.Step 2: Go on a wikiwalk of some distance, and forget what I was originally out looking for.Step 3: Decide Automats are what I saw in Tokyo last time I was there, and not an establishment for washing clothing, like I thought it was (I was thinking Laundromat).Step 4: Try to understand why “it wouldn’t work”. Automats appear to work just fine. Although the American obsession with paper instead of coins for dollar and two dollar units would cause issues.Step 5: Consider whether I thought it was a laundromat because that coat really needs a clean….

The guy selling the paper doesn’t notice that the coat is bloodstained?

It could have been worse, they could have tried slipping by dressed as a pantomime horse.
