I loaned my car (a ’56 Chevy) to a shipmate who returned it slighlty “bent”. Thereafter, two hands were required to drive it – the right hand to keep the gear shift from jumping out of gear, and the left to keep the car from hooking to the right. As tiring as that was, I was fortunate that I had to stop every 40 miles or so to put water in the radiator.

I loaned my ‘57 Chevy to my brother-in-law and he brought it back with a bent valve but wouldn’t fix it. My employer had it hauled to the junk yard when I couldn’t get it fixed.

I am wondering if the cartoonist might be suggesting that the driver might have a pager instead of a phone or a very simple flip phone? Like, I think it’s called, a Jitterbug?

Humans on the earth for some, what, 4 million years or so? First hand held technology, phones, available some, what, 40 years or so?

How on God’s Green Earth did we get along for so long without all this techno-babble?
