Katy: Can we get rid of the bug zapper?
Adam: What? Why?
Katy: It's not fun anymore. I saw it zap a lightning bug. I like lightning bugs!! I didn't think of the collateral damage.
Adam: Few eight-year-olds do.
It was clearly colluding with the mosquitoes, or it would not have been there. It was no coincidence that it was caught in a trap set for the mosquitoes.I’m sorry, but that lightning bug had it coming.
1. Oh, the irony. A lightning bug zapped, and 2. By the time a person is old enough to think about collateral damage, or “friendly fire”, someone somewhere up the line figured it was worth the risk.

Bug zappers don’t discriminate.

Almost no adults do either.

Bug zappers attract bugs. If you want to keep bugs out of your yard, make a present of a zapper to your next door neighbor .
