In downtown Philadelphia the major east-west streets laid out by William Penn in his “Green Country Town” include Chestnut, Walnut, Locust, Spruce, and Pine. There used to be a Sassafras, but the Victorians renamed it because it was too hard to spell and they didn’t like the word “a-s-s”.

After numbered streets, Park and Main, the most common street names are tree names beginning with Oak, Pine and Maple
Our neighborhood has gone for the more obscure- like Magnolia, Tamarack, Buckthorn and Almond.
