I thought the same until I went on a business trip to India. Depending on the state you visit, they have absolutely great food with sweet and mild sauces that are a treat for your palate.

My stomach likes fruits and vegetables, fish and meat. Not so keen on concentrated carbohydrates, especially white flour and white sugar.
