    People ask me what it is like to be retired and I describe it as that excited and free feeling you had that first day of summer vacation when you were about 10 years old. Brian Basset, through Red has perfectly depicted that feeling through Red all summer long. I am somewhat reluctant to read tomorrow’s strip when Red goes back to school as we may lose that shared feeling.

    Yes, the knowledge of approaching loss sharpens those feelings almost unbearably. But they etch the memory forever, so it’s all good.

    I appreciate the 15 years I had with my Princess. A collie shepherd mix. Died in my arms suddenly and unexpectedly on August 12, 2016. One minute she was here, two minutes later she was gone.
