Lochte beats Solo hands down. Kap just brought out all the, er, folks who think the first amendment applies only to those whom they agree with.

Kaepernick’s defenders prove they have no idea what the First Amendment means. Only government can censor illegally. Sadly the nominees of both democrat and republican parties favor such illegal censorship.

People will remember Ryan Lochte’s and Hope Solo’s names long after they forget who won the gold medals in their events…. for all the wrong reasons.

If Kaepernick has the right to extend his middle finger at the USA, we have the right to ignore both him and his cause. Cuts both ways, kids.

@Steve DutchWell, there’s wasting and wasting. To me, standing up for the rights of people to say things I don’t especially like or agree with, would NOT be a “waste” by any stretch of the imagination. It would, in fact, and is, in fact, part of my moral code. And about Kaepernik: I wonder if the fans who swore never to watch another 49’ers game because one player sat down during the performance of a badly written poem set to an old English drinking song would have kept right on watching the games despite some of their (ex) players beating up their wives or girlfriends or (in the most recent case) a 70 year old man.

It interests me that many military veterans have come out in support of Kaepernick, because they put their lives on the line in defense of a person’s right to criticize. I’d think their opinion counts for something. Or is “Support our troops” a thing of the past?

I just find the people that are completely bent out of shape over the anthem laughable or hidden racists. The only reason the anthem is played before sporting events was due to the Cubs using it to increase ticket sales for the World Series before it was ever named the National Anthem.

I’m sick and tired of a group of people that fly off the handle anytime a minority (or women) protest any of the baked in racism/misogyny in America. At best, they love getting the breaks being a white male (I’m one btw), or at worst, they are scared that without that massive bonus they’ll get left behind (see all the Trump supporters).

And exactly what is the “proper” way for someone to protest? I’d really like to know. If they march in the streets, they’re lazy bums who should be working. If they riot, they should be shot on sight. If they peacefully protest, they’re privileged and thus are way, way, way too rich to be able to protest. Or even worse, “we pay your salary so just shut the hell up and do what you’re told (insert racist language here)”.

Either recognize where you fall into that, and smarten the holy hell up that his protest has nothing to do with the Flag or the Anthem (which again is just the mindless jingoistic garbage we mock dictator countries for) or even the troops that defended his right to free speech.

PauljmsnThat was the one ray of hope in this mess. The first organized groups to come out in support were the vets. With men and women like that, we have a significant layer of protection against becoming a military dictatorship..It also brought out the fact that I can’t remember the last time I stood for that drinking song. Like those around me, we have remained seated (except for the percussion section who will stand for anything).

No way Lochte should be on the list. All he did was get drunk and piss in the bushes
