The health Nazis have been yanking our chain for years. Some years ago, “Nutrition Action Health Letter”, published by the Center for Science in the Public Interest, recommended eating more ocean fish on one page(1), then recommended eating less several pages later(2). Both articles were by the same author.
(1) for omega 3 fatty oils
(2) mercury
that’s right. the whole healthy eating concept is bogus because of one author. That should be enough rationalization for you to eat all the junk you want.
Ben Franklin stated “All thing in moderaton” that is what makes for healthy eating. Th Center for Science in the Public iInterest isn’t interested in the public just publicity. I am still trying to figure out their funding.
@CedarCircle, large fish (e.g. swordfish and tuna) have the lions share of mercury. Small fish (e.g. sardines and herring) have very little. The concentration goes up the higher you go on the food chain.
Mercury is harmless up to a threshold. Below that threshold, your body can dump it fast as it comes in. If you exceed that threshold, it begins to accumulate and poison you.
You can buy purified fish oil capsules if the Hg worries you.
CedarCircle: The benefits of eating fish have created such a demand that many species have been overfished. So there’s now another reason not to eat fish.
