Jean-Marie Servrain had to get a letter from his doctor stating he was still a live because according to records, he had been dead for four years! Randy Gardner went without sleep for 264 hours and 24 minutes in 1964. After setting this record, he slept for just 14 hours, 40 minutes to recharge.

Social Security somehow got word that I was in jail for six months, and suspended my checks. I was told that I would need to produce my release papers to get reinstated. I had quite a time proving I didn’t have release papers because I had not been in jail.

French administrations require all sorts of paperwork; in fact the ‘Certificat de non-decès’ (oh, no, not a zombie) is quite a common one for certifying that relatives, ancestors and the like are not dead; this is despite that fact that there is no particular ‘apparent’ reason in many cases for the fact that they are living needs to be certified.
