Every concession on our part is taken as a victory for them and the starting place for the next demand or attack. Notice how well appeasement worked on Hitler.
The problem “pschearer” is that the rest of the world think WE’RE the fanatics. And it many ways they are right.
I don’t know many countries with such eclectic groups of people that don’t seem to run out of groups to hate: Mexicans, Muslims, gays are on the current agenda.
In reality, reasonable religious leaders vastly outnumber the rare nut in all major faiths. It’s just that the news cameras are never there. Media goes looking for crazy, that’s why there is so much of it.

Heck, what’s a few embassies, ships, and passenger jets, Marine Barracks, and kiddnappings? They’ve promised not to attack Poland.
