There was a fad a few decades ago of designing and constructing a combination Rube Goldberg machine/obstacle course to make the path to the bird feeder as complicated as possible. Then one could watch in mute amazement how little time it took for the squirrels to solve it.

The more squirrels that ‘steal’ the walnuts in the yard, the fewer for me to pick up and later dig seedlings out of the flower bed.

I don’t have any walnuts, but I have tons of acorns and they gather them up by the hundreds.
