Usually you can only grow mushrooms in the basement because they don’t need much light. Tomatoes need light so it would be impossible to grow tomatoes in the basement. Impossible, that is, except for a mad scientist. Thus, he yells, “They’re alive!” because he did the impossible, ya know, like creating life. That’s what I think
Although, I must admit I’m not sure why Frank is saying, “Every day!”
I thought it was just your standard outdoor garden, and Frankenstein (the doctor) is celebrating the “creation” of life. The monster is just frustrated by his incessant celebration of that creation.
Typical of Frankenstein’s habit of bringing old things back to life; they’re heirloom tomatoes. I have a friend who was just as pleased with her heirloom. The plant produced just two tomatoes all summer.

^ The reference to the Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
I just had a garage sale and found a Betamax copy of that movie that I can’t play because the Betamax bit the dust about 1992.
Also have Ringo Starr’s Caveman and Leslie Neilson, Cindy Williams, and Patrick MacNee in Naked Space. Highly recommend these movies LOL
