Interesting you learn something new every day about characters – and the fact that it comes up as new makes it so much better, because the sexuality is not what makes a person, but how they act. :)

I couldn’t care less what George Takei says or thinks. Or what any celebrity says or thinks.

Did we know this already or was it a total surprise? At least three of us didn’t know.

Actually, the weight of historical literary evidence suggests that, while there are many strictly homosexual people, when a culture permits some legitimacy to any relationship, a very substantial percentage of the population is open to either gender, usually with a primary focus on one. You have to dig pretty vigorously for the evidence, since it’s rarely analyzed to that end. The inescapable conclusion is that people are sexual, period, and their primary focus is likely the result of both nature and nurture, as with most human cultural traits. When you actually investigate, the furor over gay marriage becomes silly, since legitimized same-sex unions have been institutionalized for as far back as human literature is available. In some periods, the male-male unions were considered the most reliable, but that is colored by an attitude through most of human history that women were unworthy of being friends with males (friend meaning what it has for most of history, not the bogus acquaintanceship the word refers to today).
