Poor things . . it must be freezing with the power lines down!

“Streets are closed to emergency vehicles only”?

In these days streets be damned! The parents would be storming the school to bring their children hom.

That is a VERY GOOD person to have with small children, in these circumstances.

My life line is my coal stove. It can heat the house and I can cook on it. I only use it in emergencies.

Finally, a reasonable adult. Yes, you might be scared, but you never show that in front of small children. Yes, I like her.

Sadly you cannot hug a child in this day and age without getting in trouble. A good friend of mine lost her job for hugging a girl that tripped and cut her knee.

It’s nice that Elizabeth is allowed to rest beside her big brother. Having a sibling nearby is comforting in such a situation.

Mike’s telling a little fib. He sleeps in class all the time.

I used to keep a couple of sleeping bags at work, when I worked in Chicago. If it snowed during the afternoon, the rush hour traffic took three hours longer than my one hour drive home, so I just slept at work.

Why would the teacher be scared? It would be unpleasant to be stuck in the school but there is nothing dangerous about it. It’s not a tornado or a hurricane.

At least Miss Kinney is nicer to Elizabeth than Miss Blais ever was!
