I find this very funny for several reasons, but I am certain that some will find it offensive. I don’t see it as denouncing any church, and I think there may be several reflected in the drawing. I see it first as an absurdist cartoon. It proposes an absurd scenario, then imagines what it might look like.

So…. they headed for Paraguay with all that money…
and 30 or 40 years later….
there was a new Pope from right next door in Argentina.
Coincidence?
Yeah, probably.
Liverlips….
Kliban has been gone for over 25 years.
His cartoons were, and still are, immensely popular, including quite a number of irreverent jabs at religious subjects.
He loved to skewer the pompous regardless of gender, faith, occupation, or politics.
I don’t think you need to make excuses for liking it.
Feel free.

And so, in 1724, came the invention of the Pontiff Scheme.
