In reference to today’s strip, and given I spent a significant amount of my life owning and working in hardware stores helping fellows like today’s plugger, I need to say this:
We had a real hardware store for over a century but the owners couldn’t find a buyer when they retired. Many times I have gone in with a need like showing them a small bolt and needed a nut and lock washer, they went to their six-sided chest of drawers and pulled them out, generally fitted on the first try, and charged a nickel on the set. Service you don’t get in the capitalist chains and franchises with their prepackaged, more than you will ever need, for a dollar. Give me free enterprise any day.
We still have three local lumber yard/hardware stores as well as a Locke plumbing/electrical store and two farm/ranch supply stores that also carry quite a bit of hardware.

that’s going to be a problem… better quickly call that hardware store (if it’s not too late)

Plumbing almost always takes 3 trips to the hardware store…unless I can find the part that I saved 6 years ago somewhere out in the garage

It’s best to start plumbing repairs in the morning when the hardware stores are about to open.

And never start on Friday. It’ll kill your weekend.

Because he knows it’s going to take at least 3 trips there to finish.

Had an outdoor faucet crack yesterday in the cold. Popped it off the line and installed a cap. Shark fittings are great!

That is EXACTLY me today … learned long ago that …for me … there is no such thing as a 1.5 hr plumbing job.
