Ted Rall for December 27, 2016
Transcript:
Loyal Opposition: Trump has nominated the sitting CEO of Exxonmobil to be secretary of state. If you were pitching this as part of the plot of a dystopian sci-fi movie, a Hollywood Producer would laugh you out of the office. Man 1: You go to far, Mr. Verhoeven! Man 2: It could happen! Maybe. Narrator: So how are the democrats attacking a sec'y of state candidate who's the sitting CEO of Exxon Mobil? Woman: He's too close to Russia. Man 3: Besties with Putin! Narrator: Talk about missing the point. Woman: Heinrich Himmler has a terrible driving record. Man 4: 48 in a 35! WTF?!?

Thanks, Mr. Rall. Most on-point cartoon — or editorial comment — that I’ve seen in a while.

Interestingly, Tillerson is forced by Exxon policy to retire in Jan 2017… he’ll no doubt be queried about his Exxon holdings during confirmation hearings….. but the Nazi reference may not be as far off as some think…..
Henry Ford, a known anti-Semite, was given the Grand Cross by Adolf Hitler in 1937… he also notably donated to FDR and miraculously, his Ford plants, building jeep like vehicles in Germany were not bombed…. giving Ford a big edge in production and sales of cars after the war.
Altho, I realize that Ted is arguing that the Russian connection may not be that significant vis-a-vis Exxon’s global power and exercise of defiance of US foreign policy under Tillerson.
But trusting a structural internationalist with US foreign policy is just about exactly what Trump has done with many of his other choices so far… such as Mnuchin for Treasury and Perry for Energy…

Wait — is Ted saying you can’t nominate people if their politics are not in line with the opposition? WTF, Ted??? Going after the obvious conflict of interest is the only intelligent way to oppose him. You really don’t understand how politics work, do you?

Getting ahead of ourselves here.Attacking Tillerson for ties with Russia is a good opening gambit. There are many conservatives who still view Russia with concern. Going after environmental concerns first is a good way to turn them off.Bringing up the idea of cozying up to Putin MAY help keep McCain and others from going easy, or even approving him.

Third parties are mostly LOCAL factions, which dissolve as soon as their issue goes away.No third party will succeed nationally until they start working on the base LOCALLY, and KEEP it fortified. In Columbus, we still have the same no recognition, non- competitive candidates getting their same 1-2% MAX of the vote each election. If their base is so strong, then why aren’t they generating the money from their supporters to mount viable campaigns?

Chev James007: don’t have a heart attack, I agree with you! From Mobil creating “Saudi” Arabia in 1923 by installing the House of Saud, to the Exxon Valdez, the companies have never had citizen interests (like the environment and peace in the world) at heart, before, or since the merger.

I believe most posters here, despite their obvious disagreements, are moderates, and have the good of the country at heart.I grew up with 25 cent per gallon gas, and thought that was the way things would always be.It took the extending of the Vietnam War, and the oil embargo of the Carter years, and my subsequent reading of history, to realize how much the USA has created the problems we now decry.A good SMALL read (because it goes on and on like a thesis expanded to a book) is Disaster Capitalism. You get the point quickly, and can then return the book to the library!

Ted Rall every day before the election: “Hillary is the worst thing ever!!! How can you vote for her?!”
Ted Rall every day after the election: “Trump is the worst thing ever!!! Why did you vote for him?!”
Your guy, Ted. Own it.

The movie “The Formula” gave Marlon Brando a great line as an AMERICAN oil company executive. When his aid blames the “Arabs”, Brando replies “You idiot! We ARE the Arabs!”

I understand that he’s a very nice man. Anyway, didn’t FDR say “the business of America is business?” Or maybe it was Lincoln.

I think our man Rall has a NAZI fetish…but every time the Republicans win out comes the NAZI card…. so predictible.
