How many Generals lead campaigns in battles in the Civil War. Leia was a General, so she lead the battle…and didn’t come in until it was safe.

What made me smile was that in the very first movie when her ship was being boraded Leia complained that she was on an important diplomatic mission and how dare they borad her peaceful little consular ship – now it turns out she and her ship came directly from a battle against the empire – must be one of the more brazen excuses in histoty.

That’s nothin’. Think about Indiana Jones and the Lost Ark. Consider—— If Indiana Jones had never been born, the events of the movie would have played out to exactly the same end. He’s entirely superfluous.

She wasn’t. She became important because of her presence at Scarrif and her ability to get Luke to fall for her at a mere glance in a short hologram video. Her first reference was not even by name but simply as someone Senator Bail Organa would trust with his life.
