    I side with Gil. I’m tired of sitting in a freezing car waiting for the air to get warm and it just gets there as we arrive at our destination.

    And it’s only worse in modern cars. Engineers work hard to get the engine as hot as possible as soon as possible. When the engine is hot it is more fuel efficient than when cold. Enjoy those latest CAR regulations.

    If your car warms up as you arrive at your destination, you should have been walking. Or so I tell my wife; her job is a mile and a half away.

    I drive a Nissan, and it is warm enough for me to remove my coat within a mile and a half.

    Old air-cooled VWs offered an optional gasoline-burning auxiliary heater as a solution. But they recommended it only for arctic and sub-arctic conditions.
