Santiago was one of the few high points of this era of the strip – shame they wrote her out – I wonder if the strip hadn’t ended if she would have returned. Although I didn’t like the multi-year long stretches’ without Punjab and/or The Asp.
It’s obvious that Santiago served the same function as Joe Corntassle served on the Radio Show – someone for Annie to interact with besides Sandy! (Plus in the 2000’s, Annie on her own having adventures just didn’t work anymore.)
