Off topic from the cartoon, but shouldn’t we vette Presidential candidates a little better? Where are the required and preferred credentials to be hired as president? I have to go through all sorts of background checks, credit checks, and reference checks to get hired. All Trump had to do was appeal to a bunch of p*ssed off people.
We could have vetted the president better. He could have vetted his prepared executive order better. If they vet the immigrants like we vet the people who are in charge of this mess, we’ll actually do a worse job than what we already have.
What Trump and Bannon are doing has nothing to do with true conservatism. I think some conservatives know this. I can understand an honest desire for limited government and a mostly unrestricted market, for example, but that’s not what Trump is about. Trump and Bannon want more spending, just in different places, such as a massive and massively useless wall, and they want the government to be able to push people around, so long as they are the government. Conservatives should want a free press which can criticize the government with no fear of retaliation. But Trump and Bannon don’t want a free press. I hope that we will see more and more honest conservatives realize that this is not what they wanted.
