He who develops something with extra sugar, extra soy, and extra gluten will probably make a mint.

The Shrink Ray and it’s devious cousin Slack Fill have shrunk his wallet, yet still left it larger than it needs to be to hold … nothing.

He must have gone shopping at Whole Foods Market, aka “Whole Paycheck”.

    And, of course, flavor-free.

@JKISS: While it’s true that there are people who are celiac, the number of people who are borderline or full diabetic greatly, greatly exceeds the celiac population. And the reality is, major producers of all too many products (breads, frozen meals, pancake mixes, jellies, syrups, etc.) are so addicted to ‘incentives’ they get to use high fructose corn syrup and other unneeded carbs that it can be very difficult to afford a diet that helps those with diabetes. Our soaring medical costs can partly be tracked to high fructose corn syrup…

@SHERLOCK WATSON: The one thing we didn’t see in Horace’s shopping bag was ‘salt free’. Salt is the major ingredient added to provide flavor, and for many of us with high blood pressure, it genuinely is a problem (even though a lot of junk science printed these days says otherwise). The high amount of saline added to food was originally because we had no other way to preserve it, so we salted or pickled food. Now that there are refrigerators, you don’t have to, and you don’t have to use salt for flavor. There are lots of great herbs and spices around…

Excellent points, Argy3. It really is a good idea to cook everything from scratch.
