First Daleks are not robots. They were once humanoid and are now little BEMs in those exo-suits operating them. Think of them as the ultimate outcome of Nazi thinking. They think they are better than all other intelligent life-forms and want to “Exterminate” them from the galaxy.
We actually have a small nearby barbecue restaurant, the best barbecue you could find in California and as good as any in the South and that’s really saying something—but they recently automated nearly everything. No waiters anymore, not even busboys, just place your order and clear your table yourself when you’re done. They also remodeled away all the farm and cowboy and gingham look to appear—modern? Metal walls now. Like you’re surrounded by the inside of the sinks in the kitchen. No human touch anywhere. No understanding that people spend the money to go out to dinner to connect with other people—they thought they’d make more money if they made you want to eat fast and get out fast so they could have higher turnover. Doesn’t matter how good the barbecue is—we’ve never gone back.
