Love that the word “type” is hand written.I can actually centre a document on a manual typewriter. It’s not necessary or even possible anymore, but I know how.
I remember typing term papers on a manual typewriter, and having to keep track of where each line ended. Most teachers wanted you to keep hyphenation to a minimum.
Years ago, my wife typed my dissertation with lots of italics, Greek letters, and mathematical symbols on an IBM with changeable type balls. Fortunately, it was the first year we could submit a Xerox copy, rather than a carbon copy, but she still had callouses on her fingers when she got through! We actually submitted two Xerox copies, and I kept the original with all the White-Out.
