I still have mine from 1962. I avoided the draft by enlisting in the Marines.

I enlisted in Oct. 1969 to avoid being taken in the draft. Two months later the first ever draft lottery was held, and my birth date (today’s date, coincidentally) came up number 354. At least I got an eighteen month all-expenses paid vacation in beautiful, exotic Southeast Asia as a consolation prize and was lucky enough to return home safely.

@’Nuffsaid Definitely lucky! My uncle served during the Korean War and the family was afraid he’d be sent there. However, he lucked out and spent the time in Texas.

I enlisted in the Marines in ‘64. I was 17, so I didn’t get my card until I got out. And I still have it. I enlisted for 3 years and spent the last one in ’Nam. So, I was 20 when I got out.
