I have a shelf of dictionaries and thesauri behind me, but when I need a quick spelling check – I just google the word I am thinking of, misspelled or not. Google usually comes back with “did you mean (word spelled correctly.”) I rarely use ’in-text spell checkers; they are often too limited.
This brings back a memory. When I was around 11 I was watching a TV show with my mom and brother and someone said the word “mistress.” I turned to Mom and asked “What’s a mistress?” and she turned red and said to look it up in the dictionary. The dictionary was on a bookshelf right by me so I did. Funny I had thought it meant something more exciting.
