Companies have the option of using “peanuts” made of cornstarch instead of the Styrofoam. Back in the 90’s, the company I was working for started using them. They are better for the environment, and believe me, if the cost wasn’t at least the same if not cheaper, the owner of the company would not have approved of the change. Also, if kids decide to bite down on one, it would not hurt them. The bag that those peanuts came in said that they are the same as cheese puffs, without the cheese or salt.
