Don’t do this one at home kids! Elly is failing ladder safety on these points:
Only one person at a time is permitted on a ladder unless the ladder is specifically designed for more than one climber.
At all times during ascent, descent, and working, the climber must face the ladder and have two hands and one foot, or two feet and one hand in contact with the ladder steps, rungs and/or side rails.
SPOILER this:
In tomorrow’s comic strip, we will see that this bird’s nest is far above the ground.
One year we had a robin’s nest right outside our back door. We always ate dinner on our back porch and would watch the babies. For a couple years after that we could tell who “our” babies were because they responded to my younger daughter’s voice.
This strip was done to counter the thought of death and bring everyone back, full circle, to new beginnings. Again, I received many letters from readers who felt this was an appropriate thing to include in the story. The strip was really a saga by now, and far from the “gag-a-day” ideas I’d started with.

Baby birds are so cute! We have a finch aviary at church and we often get to see little pink baby birds.

Yes, I often take ladder safety from comic strips.

Nice, until adult birds attack them for invading their space!

And magic turns to reality when Magpies or crows find the nest

I neglected to put the storm window down on a bedroom (2d story) window and a dove is raising two babies on the window sill. Interesting to watch.

It’s not magic, it’s SCIENCE (as in “the birds and the bees”). Two birds copulate and BANG, eggs then baby birds!

As a cartoon, all she has to do is step out of frame and back in again.@Charlie Tuba – a bit simplified that. Badda-Bing

It looks like someone flagged the guy screaming ALL CAPS at Elly about reality versus fiction and the moderator removed it.
