When there’s a power surge and my digital clock is blinking the same time at the time of surge, it is wrong 86,400 times a day. Plus that would only be one year for Satchel (dog years), wait…or would that be 49 years of bad luck for old Satch. No wonder he’s concerned.

This is how superstitions get perpetuated — “Are you sure you want to take a chance on that?” — despite utter lack of evidence that there’s anything behind them.

The Friday the 13 superstition started when the highly indebted King of France conspired with the then Pope to strip the wealthy religious order the Knights Templar of all their lands and money. On Friday October 13 1307 the Grandmaster of the order, like so many, was burnt at the stake. In the process he cursed the names of the Pope and King for their treachery. Within a year both were dead. The lands were confiscated, but most of the treasury was never found.

Anybody else have Stevie Wonder immediately leap into mind while reading today’s strip? Sing it with me: “There is superstitition…”

Are you referring to the Song “Superstition” If so the lyrics are: …“Very superstitious, writings on the wall, Very superstitious, ladders bout’ to fall, Thirteen month old baby, broke the lookin’ glass Seven years of bad luck, the good things in your past

When you believe in things that you don’t understand, Then you suffer, Superstition ain’t the way "
