Reminds me of my first semester in college. I was unaware that there were no classes during finals week; toddled along to my first class and found myself sitting alone for an hour and a half. I didn’t mind. It was quieter than in the dorms; got a lot of studying done. Later I realised—the building was empty except for me and the cleaners!
So he went to the stadium on a non-game day so he could sit in the rain? I’ve never said this about a Peanuts strip, but I don’t get this one at all.
Not being American, or really familiar with the sport, I only have your comments to help me understand what’s going on here.
However, these panels are unusually detailed for Peanuts, aren’t they? It is rare to have a perspective shot like the field in panel 6, all the writing on the walls and the seats, or the large number of empty seats in the final panel.

I don’t get it either but can’t be bothered to read all the comments.

The next day’s sports headline: “Joe Shlabotnik slips on rain puddle. Injured, scratched from active roster for remainder of season.”
