For those of who haven’t been keeping up with the strip, Rose isn’t an only child. The red-headed girl to the right of her mom in panel one is her sister.
Actually, in the earlier strips, Roses dad occasionally shows up, and looks just like rose. I’m assuming this means maybe Fanny is adopted or looks like a grandparent, or for a more loose theory, mom is actually and aunt, the sister of the dad, who became the surrogate mom after the real red headed mom passed away, or vicey versy with the dad being an uncle.
Fanny is Clem’s mother. She didn’t wear her hair like that back then. Rather, Clem was the spitting image of his father, who actively taught hogging as a positive personality trait.
